erzurum: Mardi/Tuesday 15.11.2011. Amsterdam. Istanbul.

Nous voilà donc repartis, cette fois vers la Turquie. Jens donne un cours a l’Université de Erzurum, à l’est du pays. Ce n’est pas loin (260 km) de Van où il y a eu deux tremblements de terre le mois dernier.

Nous avons pris l’avion à 6 h 30 ce matin à Bergen. La température à Bergen a été très douce jusqu’à hier. Mais il a gelé cette nuit et nous avons les pneus d’été. Heureusement c’était bien salé donc ça ne glissait pas.

Nous sommes maintenant à Amsterdam, 2 h d’attente. Puis nous repartons à 11 h 25 pour Istambul. L’aéroport est déjà décoré pour Noël. Je vois deux petits oiseaux à l’intérieur de l’aéroport.

Vol sans histoire jusqu’à Istambul. Nous arrivons à 16 h30, 17 h 30 heure locale. Il pleuviote et il fait 8 degrés. Nous avons une réservation à un hôtel assez près de l’aéroport. Nous prenons un taxi. Le chauffeur ne parle pas Anglais mais il sait dire ”no problem”. Et nous voilà partis dans une circulation monstre. En fait il ne sait pas où on va. On s’arrête à une station service et il demande. On repart et on se re-perd. On s’arrête à une station de taxis et il demande. On fait demi-tour et on roule. On s’arrête encore, un piéton aide, puis un deuxième. Et on repart. Par hasard, on passe devant l’hôtel et c’est moi qui le voit. On a roulé 45 mn alors que cela devait prendre 10 mn. Mais le chauffeur était très sympa et c’était rigolo.

L’hôtel que Jens avait trouvé par internet est très bien, la chambre est petite mais très correcte. Et la nuit, petit-déjeuner inclus, coûte 40 €.

On va faire une balade. Le quartier est tout neuf, moderne. On rentre dans un hyper centre commercial avec boutiques de luxe, cinémas et Burger King.

Puis on rentre diner à l’hôtel, bon et pas cher.

On va se coucher tôt, on s’est levé à 4 h 30 ce matin.

First Amsterdam and so Istanbul. 15.11.2011

So here we are, on the road again, this time to Turkey. Jens teaches a course at the University of Erzurum in the eastern part of the country. It's not far (260 km) of Van, where there were two earthquakes last month.
We flew at 6:30 am this morning from Bergen. The temperature at Bergen was very mild until yesterday. But it froze last night and we have the summer tires. The road was slippery but fortunately it was salted so it did not slip.
We are now in Amsterdam, 2 hours of waiting. Then we leave for Istanbul at 11:25 am. The airport is already decorated for Christmas. I see two birds inside the airport.
Uneventful flight to Istanbul. We arrive at 4:30 pm, 5:30 local time. It is raining a little bit and it's 8

degrees. We have a reservation at a hotel quite close to the airport. We take a taxi. The driver does not speak English but he knows how to say "no problem". And we're off in a monster traffic. In fact he does not know where to go. We stop at a gas station and he asks. We leave and we become lost again. We stop at a taxi stand and he asks. We turn around and we drive back. We stop again, with a pedestrian, then a second trying to help. And we start again. By chance, we drive past the hotel and it is I who see it. We drove 45 minutes while it would take normally 10 minutes. But the driver was very nice and it was fun.
The hotel that Jens had found the internet is OK, the room is small but very correct. And one night, including breakfast, costs € 40.

We go for a walk. The area is very new, modern. We go in a super mall with many luxury shops, cinemas and Burger King.
Then we come back at the hotel to eat dinner, good and cheap.
We'll go to bed early, we got up at 4: 30 am this morning.
